TOLERANCE LEVEL OF GRAFTED PAPAYA PLANTS AGAINST PAPAYA DIEBACK DISEASE

نویسندگان

چکیده

Papaya (Carica papaya) cultivars commonly grown in Malaysia, namely Sekaki and Eksotika, are very susceptible to papaya dieback disease (PDD), resulting reduced production of papayas. As an alternative, grafted seedling using Viorica variety as a highly tolerant rootstock can be introduced combat PDD. Three grafting combinations scion/rootstock were used this study Eksotika/Eksotika (E/E), Eksotika/Viorica (E/V) Viorica/Viorica (V/V). These plants tested over hot-spot diseased location evaluate their field tolerance levels against PDD for 14 months exposure. The occurrence on showed that the was mostly found E/E combination, with severity 86.7% score 4.34, whereas E/V 71.0% 3.55, respectively. lowest recorded V/V plants, 34.3% 1.72. Results susceptible, while Therefore, var. proved it could influence level cv. Eksotika scion

Papaya Dieback in Malaysia: A StepTowards A New Insight of Disease Resistance

A recently published article describing the draft genome of Erwiniamallotivora BT-Mardi (1), the causal pathogen of papaya dieback infection in Peninsular Malaysia, hassignificant potential to overcome and reduce the effect of this vulnerable crop (2). The authors found that the draft genome sequenceis approximately 4824 kbp and the G+C content of the genomewas 52-54%, which is very similarto t...

Antagonistic Activity of Fructoplane Yeast Against Ulocladium Rot of Papaya

Debaryomyces hanseniZopf isolated from the fructoplane of apples were found to be effective as biocontrol agent against rot of papaya caused by Ulocladium. chartarum(Pr.) Simm. The ability of D. hansenii to prevent infection of U. chartarum was lost when the antagonist cells were killed by autoclaving. Cell free culture filtrates of antagonist were unable to prevent disease incidence. Efficacy ...

Physical Characteristics of the Leaves and Latex of Papaya Plants Infected with the Papaya meleira Virus.

Sticky disease, which is caused by Papaya meleira virus (PMeV), is a significant papaya disease in Brazil and Mexico, where it has caused severe economic losses, and it seems to have spread to Central and South America. Studies assessing the pathogen-host interaction at the nano-histological level are needed to better understand the mechanisms that underlie natural resistance. In this study, th...

Genetic characterization of papaya plants (Carica papaya L.) derived from the first backcross generation.

The limited number of papaya varieties available reflects the narrow genetic base of this species. The use of backcrossing as a breeding strategy can promote increases in variability, besides allowing targeted improvements. Procedures that combine the use of molecular markers and backcrossing permit a reduction of the time required for introgression of genes of interest and appropriate recovery...

Draft Genome Sequence of Erwinia mallotivora BT-MARDI, Causative Agent of Papaya Dieback Disease

Erwinia mallotivora was isolated from papaya trees infected with dieback disease, which were planted at the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), Malaysia. Here, we report a draft genome sequence of E. mallotivora BT-MARDI, which offers an important source of information for understanding pathogen and host interaction during papaya dieback development.
